CHARITY AUCTION: Jota Edition No. 01 for WCK

We’ve all witnessed the situation in Ukraine and the resulting humanitarian crisis. Today, instead of waiting until Christmas as planned, we’ve decided to auction copy number 01/75 of the Jota Edition Miura Book. All proceeds are going to the World Central Kitchen (WCK), a charity founded by Chef José Andrés, who immediately mobilized their forces to provide relief to Ukrainian refugees with the #ChefsForUkraine initiative.

In support of refugees escaping the violence, WCK began serving hot, nourishing meals in Poland within a day of the initial attack and are now set up at eight border crossings, as well in Przemyśl—a city receiving many refugee families.  You can learn a lot more about WCK and their tangible Ukraine response by clicking here

Ours is a small gesture which we hope will nonetheless make a difference. Thank you for your generous bids. To make a direct donation, click here.

Description

Our original Miura book was limited to 762 copies and sold out in six days, priced at £450. We auctioned copy number 01/75 to benefit charity in 2020 and a generous bidder paid £29,100.

Last year we produced the Jota Edition, limited to 75 copies, which was intended as a final collectors item and also sold out almost immediately. The original price was £3,929.

The Jota Edition is hand bound in black leather with a contrasting panel of metallic burgundy hide, a tribute to the car after which this luxury, last-ever volume of the Kidston Miura book is named. The title is picked out in silver embossed blocking. The Jota edition contains several pages of new content, including an introduction by Gian Paolo Dallara, the last surviving member of the engineering trio who created the Miura. The end papers are now brilliant Miura orange, and a new ‘X Ray’ overhead illustration printed on acetate welcomes readers to the wealth of information contained within.

The Jota Edition is presented in a Solander clamshell box measuring 43.5cm X 39.5cm X 9.5cm, hand-crafted and covered with silver, museum-quality buckram, itself embossed with the title of the book and designer Piero Stroppa’s legendary Miura logo. The book is cossetted in its case in burgundy Suedel®, with matching ribbon by which to lift it out. A new Miura side- profile card bookmark with orange ribbon is unique to the Jota Edition.

Placed on top of the book in the presentation box is a black leather portfolio with contrasting ‘panno beige’ panel of actual Miura seating material. The portfolio contains the following:

– Reproduction engineering drawings of the Miura
– Two 1960s cartoons by Russell Brockbank that poke gentle fun at the other-worldly car from Italy
– A period colour press photograph and in rodaggio (‘running in’) Kidston windscreen sticker

Every Jota Special Edition carries a ‘chassis plate’ with its production number. The book weighs in at 10kg.
